Dr. Hamer is a 1974 graduate of Lawrence Central High
School in Indianapolis.
In 1978, he graduated
from Indiana University
in Bloomington, Indiana. 
He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1982.

Dr. Hamer and his wife Carol have two children, Sheryl and Ethan. Interests other than his family and dentistry include traveling, fishing and collecting antique toys.
